We've got rare natural specimens from excellent localities in today's episode.
Aquamarine is March's birthstone and is the green-blue variety of the beryl family; it is also the most popular beryl gemstone. It is a sister stone to emerald and morganite. The color comes from trace amounts of iron in the gemstone. Aquamarine has good toughness while ranking 7.5-8 on the Mohs hardness scale, making it great for jewelry wearing. The largest producer of aquamarine is Brazil, but it is found all over the globe.
