Unboxing a Million Dollars in Gemstones: Black Opal + More!
We have four boxes filled with extremely expensive gemstones; watch as the team dives in! In today's episode, learn about some of the most valuable specimens! JTV President & CEO Tim Matthews joins gemologist Rebecca to reveal why these stones represent the best of the best.
Firstly, we have a huge smokey quartz with a valuable form. We also have a greenish-yellow heliodor; this is a variety of beryl that comes in a variety of yellow hues, and pure beryl comes in colorless.
Next, we have kunzite, which is a variety of spodumene. Kunzite was named after the founder George Fredrick Kunz in 1902. The color comes from trace amounts of manganese, with colors coming in medium pink, sometimes with a hint of violet. These stones can fade in direct sunlight, but the color can be replenished with radiant energy; that's why this stone is sometimes referred to as "the evening stone."
Wait until gemologist Rebbeca brings in CEO and President of JTV, Tim Matthews, and he has one of the world's largest tanzanite specimens on the globe! Tanzanite is one of four birthstones for December and ranks 6.5 on the Mohs hardness scale. According to experts, tanzanite is one thousand times rarer than diamond. Tim even has a stunning 55-carat trillion cut tanzanite.
We also have a few stunning opals, including a gorgeous matrix opal that's price will make your jaw drop. Opal is the birthstone for October with numerous varieties.
