Firstly, we have diamonds embedded within kimberlite, which is quite rare to discover in nature. Kimberlite is an intrusive igneous rock that is an irregular form of peridotite.
One of the rarest forms of rough diamonds is found within the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Different shapes of rough diamonds are found at varying depths of the Earth. Every diamond is at least a billion years old, giving each stone plenty of history.
Diamond ranks ten on the Mohs hardness scale, making it the hardest known natural substance on Earth. Often seen as the most popular engagement gemstone, diamond is recommended for the 60th and 75th-anniversary gifts. Diamonds come in a plethora of colors, including all rainbow colors. Carbon is the only element that makes up diamonds, and this is the only known gemstone with a single component. Learn where these specimens are found, how they form, and why Andrew could be the Dr. Dolittle of diamonds.
