Bayong or Afzelia rhomboidea is a hardwood tree from the Philippines. The tree is slow growing, but the wood is durable. The trees are harvested for building material for houses, but the off cuts are used to make beads, jewelry, and decorative items. The wood is brown or reddish brown in color and displays a lovely grain pattern. The leaves can be woven into purses and baskets.
